First Rule – Breathe deeply, taking a few seconds for each inhale, rather than shallow breathing.​

Second Important Point – Try to breathe through your mouth instead of your nose. This way, you can simply breathe faster and stay in rhythm.

Now, about the rhythm—it’s really individual, so let’s try a few tactics:

Honestly, there’s no one-size-fits-all formula or breathing principle for everyone. So just listen to your body and avoid holding your breath for too long. Also, remember that the faster your running pace, the more likely your breathing rhythm will change.

The most popular way to breathe is to inhale and exhale every 2 steps. In any case, what’s more important is how deeply you breathe—that’s the top priority. So it’s better to breathe through your mouth to get more oxygen in, but your inhale should be shorter than your exhale.

Also, don’t forget to choose the right shoes and insoles when running. This will save your feet from unnecessary and unwanted strain.
